Students and Evanston residents also said they saw room for improvement in how the University and city communicated information throughout the lockdown that resulted from the threat, which lasted more than an hour. “They had the opportunity to respond as if it was a real event because we all believed it to be one when the call came in,” Hagerty said. He said though it was a hoax, the situation allowed officials to practice responding to an active shooter situation.
